Lot 61: Ironstone 100K Overall Finisher Awards
A Pair of Exceptional Commemorative Medallions, Pennsylvania Cherry Wood, Stone, and Iron Chain, 2025

Offered here is a distinguished pair of overall finisher awards designed exclusively for the Ironstone 100K—a testament to endurance, craftsmanship, and local heritage. Each medallion, meticulously handcrafted from select Pennsylvania cherry, boasts a commanding presence at 10 inches in diameter. The wood, sustainably harvested from Huntingdon County near the race’s rugged finish line, gleams with a warm, honeyed hue, its grain elegantly accented by both raised lettering and deeply incised subtractive engraving.
At the heart of each award rests a hand-carved stone, artfully shaped to echo the historic kilns that greet runners at the race’s beginning and end—an homage to Ironstone’s unique landscape and grit. The stone itself is sourced from the same local terrain, infusing each piece with authenticity and a profound sense of place. Encircling the wooden disk is an iron chain, symbolizing the unbreakable spirit of the athletes who conquer the Ironstone challenge.
This collaboration stands as a masterwork by Christopher Esh of The Wooden Buddha in Lititz, Pennsylvania. His dedication to detail and reverence for local materials have yielded an award both rugged and refined—an heirloom-worthy artifact that transcends the realm of simple recognition to embody the very soul of the Ironstone 100K.
